GEM-2 images showing areas of leakage from a tailings dam
Following concern about leakage from a tailings dam at West Australian mine site, a GEM-2 survey was conducted over an area extending approximately 200 metres beyond the tailings dam on three sides. The survey was conducted in two parts. The first survey consisted of 23 lines radiating out from the centre of the dam. The second section of the survey consisted of another 20 concentric lines which were selected to infill the previously surveyed sections.
The two images show the response of the GEM2 system at both a high and low frequency. During the course of the survey the areas which showed visual evidence of contaminant leakage were noted. These areas coincide with the regions having a higher response as recorded by the GEM2 system.
